Kristi Noem’s ‘official statement’ on X wasn’t approved by officials, sources say
By Jennifer Hansler, CNN (CNN) — A little over a week ago, an “official statement,” appearing to be printed on State Department letterhead with its Kristi Noem, former Homeland Security Secretary, posted an "official statement" on her official special envoy X account and personal X account about her end of her tenure as an envoy to the Shield of Americas. The statement, which appeared to be printed on State Department letterhead with its seal, was not approved by officials, according to two sources familiar with the matter. They said that nobody on the seventh floor, where the State Department leadership sits, or in the press office, saw the memo before it was posted on X. Noem remains a senior adviser to Deputy Secretary of State Chris Landau and continues to work on the Shield Of the Americas portfolio, a coalition started by the Trump administration to combat security issues and drug cartels in Central and South America. It is unclear whether the Department will take action against Noem.
