A string of burglaries kept Colorado Springs police busy in the early hours of Monday morning. Police first responded around 2:20 a.m. to a burglary in the 3900 block of Palmer Park Boulevard. They said two people forced their way into a closed business to steal a variety of items.

Shortly after, police reported a burglary of another business carried out by the same individuals in the 7300 block of Rangewood Drive.

After more investigation, police uncovered a third affected business several miles south in the 2400 block of South Academy Boulevard, where a vehicle with four people in it rammed a stolen Hyundai sedan through the storefront to steal merchandise, a phenomenon known as a “smash and grab.”

Colorado Springs Police Department spokesman Ira Cronin said the individuals involved in the “smash and grab” appeared to be juveniles, but he could not confirm. It's unclear if the two suspects from the first two burglaries were involved in the third, Cronin said.

According to 2024 statistics provided to The Gazette by the CSPD, there have been 14 “smash and grabs” prior to Monday's incident: one in January, one in February, eight in March and four in May.
